An executive at the tech startup I work for recently sat me down and said: “Elizabeth, you need to add this line to your resume: I am a highly adaptable leader able to operate in complex, rapidly changing, and dynamic environments.”
That was cool, but it’s honestly the last thing I want someone reading my resume to know. Yes, I am an exceptional project manager with impressive organizational and creative ability — but that is simply a prerequisite for surviving as a dancer in NYC (see next slide).
What I actually want them to know is that they would be hard pressed to find another person as dedicated, hard-working, and passionate about stories as I am.
I devour screenplays; love research projects; feel at home on sets and stages. And when I started gathering friends together to talk about their creative projects, I found that people were drawn to me and trusted me for story advice. That is how I joined a writers’ group, was only able to attend all of 2 meetings in a year, and still ended up with a script coverage gig from someone whose script I read there.
The point is, I love this stuff. Put me anywhere stories are being told, and I will give you 150%. How lucky it is to know what makes you feel alive. <3
